I thought it was electric, but it's a black plastic with two rough sides. One side is smooth and the other side with white checks is more rigid. It works quite well, and each side of the product is for different types of fabrics. For example, the one on the side with white squares has been useful for coats, the other one for sweatshirts and pants. It attracts pet hair to clothing quite easily. It should be dragged in one direction only, as if you move from top to bottom, the accumulated lint will stick to the clothes again. In the end, you only need to collect the accumulated lint with your fingers and throw it away. I liked it.
